Field Hockey Hosts Michigan and Saint Louis This Weekend

Muncie, Ind. ? For its home opener, the Ball State field hockey team will host Big Ten foe Michigan at 3 p.m. Friday followed by Saint Louis Sunday at 1 p.m.
Ball State enters the weekend at 1-3-0 with freshman forward Brittany Hammer (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) leading the Cardinal scoring with three goals. Fellow freshman forward Katie Norris (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) leads the team in assists with two.
Michigan (1-3-0) lost its previous game to currently ranked No. 1 Maryland in a 5-1 decision. The Wolverines finished 16-7 last season and return junior Kelly Fitzpatrick, who tallied 10 goals.
Following that game, the Cardinals will face Saint Louis University (1-3-0) at 1 p.m. Sunday. Saint Louis is also coming off its third loss after losing 4-0 to Indiana University. The Billikens, 4-15 last season, return junior Amanda Faust who led the team in scoring with four goals.
This weekend's game marks the 17th time Ball State will play the Wolverines with Michigan holding an 11-5 advantage. This is the 10th meeting all-time between the Cardinals and Saint Louis with Ball State leading 7-2 in the series.
Michigan will play Saint Louis on Saturday at 1 p.m. Michigan leads the all-time series at 6-1-1, having last played in 1997.
The Cardinals have not won its home opener since 2002 against Northwestern in a 2-1 victory.
