Drake Storms Past Women's Volleyball
HUNTSVILLE, Texas - - Despite building a two-set advantage, the Ball State women's volleyball team suffered its second loss of the day when the Drake Bulldogs stormed back to win the final three sets of Friday afternoon's Comfort Suites Sam Houston Invitational showdown, giving them a 3-2 (22-25, 17-25, 25-14, 25-20, 15-8) match victory.
Ball State held most of the momentum early in the contest, but when severe weather moved in outside the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum, the Bulldogs stormed back inside to hand BSU (0-2) its second setback of the young year. Drake (2-0) remained perfect in the tournament by winning for the second time in the day.
Junior Julie Breivogel (Boonville, Ind./Boonville H.S.) paced the Ball State offense for the second-straight match, racking up 16 kills, while sophomore Alyssa Rio (Wayne, Ill./St. Francis H.S.) dug up a match-high 29 balls.
Freshman Christie Waters (Muncie, Ind./Burris Laboratory School) also had a solid defensive match for BSU, raking up a career-high 16 digs.
