MUNCIE, Ind. - - Patrick Durbin (Louisville, Ky./Trinity H.S.), a senior outside attacker on the Ball State men's volleyball team, has been named to the 2008 Asics/Volleyball Magazine All-American Second Team.
"This is a great honor for Pat and for the Ball State program," said BSU head coach Joel Walton. "For Pat to be selected as one of the top 30 players in the nation is a very prestigious honor. Pat was a player our team relied on a great deal last season. Not only did he provide us with the statistics on the court, he was also the team's emotional leader in our toughest matches."
Durbin is the second BSU men's volleyball player to pick up All-American honors after the 2008 season, as fellow senior middle blocker Justin Orr (Gladstone, Mo./Winnetonka H.S.) was named to the 2007-08 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America University Division Men's At-Large Second Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
An All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association First Team selection, Durbin led the league and ranked 11th in the nation with a 4.43 kills-per-game average his senior season. Durbin, who logged a career-high 30 kills in BSU's MIVA Tournament semifinal win over Lewis (April 24), finished his career ranked 12th in BSU history with a 3.06 kills-per-game average.
In addition to ranking among the national attacking leaders for the 2008 season, Durbin collected 465 total kills on the year to set a BSU single-season rally-scoring record, passing the old mark of 455 set by Nick Meyer during the 2007 season. Durbin finished his career with 928 kills to rank 15th in school annals.
Durbin becomes just the seventh player in program history to be named to the Asics/Volleyball Magazine All-American Second Team, joining Ian Peckler (2007), Eduardo Ferraz (1996), Todd Reimer (1994), Chris Beerman (1989 & 1990), Chris Cooper (1988) and Randy Litchfield (1984).
