Carter Shaw Hired As Assistant Women's Basketball Coach

Ball State women's basketball first-year head coach Kelly Packard has announced the hiring of Carter Shaw as an assistant coach.
"I am excited to work with Kelly and her staff at Ball State," said Shaw. "There is a rich basketball tradition at Ball State and I am happy to be a part of that. The players and staff have a great energy about them and we have enormous potential this season."
Shaw spent from 2002-08 as an assistant coach at UC Santa Barbara. His duties included game scheduling, team equipment and apparel, summer camps and video operations.
Shaw, who also assisted with recruiting, was primarily responsible for the development of post and wing players. At Santa Barbara, Shaw coach two WNBA draft picks.
Prior to UC Santa Barbara, Shaw was an assistant coach at Colorado State(2000-02) where he handled individual workouts, video breakdown, game scouting and coaching post players.
From 1997-2000, Shaw was an assistant coach at Utah where he again worked with post players along with all aspects of game day preparation.
Shaw, who earned his bachelor's degree from Utah in 1995, was a head coach at Intermountain Christian High School (1992-95, 1996-97) and served as a volunteer assistant for the men's basketball program at Utah (1995-96) under the direction of former Ball State men's basketball coach Rick Majerus.
"It has been my commitment and clear focus to put together a staff experienced and talented, with the purpose of covering all the key aspects of a highly successful program," Packard says. "Carter brings more than a decade of coaching experience at the Division I level. He is respected in the coaching realm as an expert at individual skill development. Carter's personality and overall presence will be an asset to our program."
Packard has also announced she will retain associate head coach Lisa McDonald and director of basketball operations Kelsey Corbin as members of her staff. Ball State has one assistant coaching position still to be filled on the women's basketball staff.
