Ball State Eliminates Akron From Tournament

AKRON, Ohio ? Abby Gross went 3-for-3 at the plate with five RBIs to lead the Cardinals to a 5-4 victory over the Akron Zips on day three of the tournament.

The Zips were able to score two runs in the top of the first inning to take the lead.

Lisa Rozanski hit an infield single to lead off the game for BSU. Rozanski advanced to second base off a ground out from Alyssa Collins, and made her way to third off a wild pitch.

Gross picked up her first RBI of the game with a single that allowed Rozanski to score.

Akron put two more runs on the scoreboard in the second inning off a single from Julie Boyes. The Zips took their 4-1 lead into the third inning.

Christina Swierz walked the first three Ball State batters she faced to start the bottom of the third inning. Gross cleared the bases and tied the game with a three-RBI double to right centerfield.

Alicia Barkley led off the fifth inning with a single up the middle. She stole second to get into scoring position with Gross at the plate. Gross recorded her fifth RBI of the game when she singled through the right side of the infield. Barkley's run gave the Cardinals the 5-4 victory.

Laura Masch earned the win on the mound for Ball State. Masch threw four innings and limited the Zips to one run. Elizabeth Milian came in to pick up her fifth save of the season.

The Cardinals will face the Kent State Golden Flashes in the semi-finals of the tournament at 5:00 p.m.
