Women's Golf Wins Tourney; Esford Cards 2nd Ace

The Ball State University women's golf team won its fourth tournament of the season by claiming the title in its own Cardinal Classic at Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind. The Cardinals managed a 304-316=620 to win by four strokes, while Ball State's Paige Esford recorded her second hole in one in as many days Monday.
Ball State won the 12-team event by four strokes over Longwood University, while Grand Valley State managed a 626 and Ferris State was fourth with a 628.
Sophomore Paige Esford provided the tournament's most exciting moments when she made her first career hole in one Sunday, and then repeated the performance with a second ace Monday. Esford used a nine iron to ace the 113-yard, par-3, 14th hole at Delaware Country Club Sunday, and then hit a seven iron to ace the 156-yard , par-3, 16th hole Monday.
Ball State freshman Rachel Pruett was the Cardinals top finisher with a 74-77=151 to place third. Butler's Paige McCracken, a graduate of Cardinal Ritter High School in Indianapolis, earned medalist honors with a 76-72=148.
Ball State sophomore Kirsty O'Connor tied for fifth with a 75-78=153, while freshman Brittany Kelly was 15th with a 76-81=157. Esford tied for 17th with a 79-80=159, and Sarah Windlan tied for 36th with an 82-82=164. Amy Roberts competed as an individual and tied for 20th with a 79-81=160.
The Cardinals have won three tournaments this spring after posting a win in the fall season opener. Ball State will complete the regular season schedule April 25-27 at the Mid-American Conference Championships. The MAC Championships will be played at the historic Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, which is located inside and surrounding the world famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
