Women?s Basketball Wraps Up Season At Postseason Banquet

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State women's basketball team wrapped up its 2007-08 season on Saturday night as the Cardinals held their annual postseason banquet at the BSU Alumni Center. The Cardinals handed out individual honors and reflected on their second straight Mid-American Conference West Division championship.

Highlighting the awards on the night was junior guard Porchia Green (Indianapolis, Ind./Arlington). Green took home multiple awards including the Cardinal Pride Award which is given to the player who sacrifices for the good of the team and will do anything for the sake of the team.

Green, a First Team All-MAC selection, also took home the Offensive Award, the Rebounding Award and was named the Most Valuable Performer at the banquet. She led the Cardinals in scoring (13.0), rebounding (6.9), assists (133), minutes (1,066) and steals (48) on the year.

Green also joined with classmate Kiley Jarrett (Bloomington, Ind./North) as co-winners of the team's Defensive Award. Jarrett also claimed the Free Throw Award after finishing the year shooting 84.8 percent (56-of-66) from the charity stripe on the season. Her 84.8 percent was the fourth highest in the MAC this season.

Sophomore guard Audrey McDonald (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) claimed the Three-Point Award as she finished the year with a single-season program record 81 three-pointers made. She connected on 44 percent (81-of-184) from long range on the season to finish 15^th in the NCAA Division I. She also set the Ball State single-game record with nine three-pointers against Western Michigan.

Junior forward Dana Moorman (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont) was named the team's Most Improved Player. Moorman saw action in 27 games this year as a primary reserve and played crucial minutes down the stretch for the Cardinals as they claimed their second straight MAC West Division title.

The evening also saw Ball State Director of Athletics Tom Collins present the team with the 2008 MAC West Division championship plaque. The Cardinals finished the conference season with an 11-5 overall record including a 9-1 mark against divisional foes.

The Cardinals also handed out two scholarship awards on the night. Maggert was honored with the Rene? and Phil Feeney Memorial scholarship. The Feeney scholarship was established in 1995 and is awarded to the player who demonstrates passion and commitment to basketball and academics.

Moorman was also honored as she received the Amy Lindsay Fuller Memorial Scholarship. The Fuller scholarship was established in memory of former BSU standout Amy Fuller who was a two-year letterwinner at BSU and whose life was cut tragically short in an automobile accident on Nov. 28, 2004. The scholarship was established for two reasons: to assist with a scholarship for Amy's son ? Aaron Cordell ? and two honor a played who emulates Amy's individual qualities and characteristics.

Also, WCRD Radio member Joel Nickels who took home the Tom Hammond Memorial Fan or Media Appreciation Award. The Tom Hammond Award is in honor of longtime BSU public address announcer Tom Hammond who past away at the end of the 2006-07 season.
