Football's Nate Davis One of 10 Finalists for Manning Award

Nate Davis (Bellaire, Ohio/Bellaire H.S.), who was selected the 2008 Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year, has been named one of 10 finalists for the Manning Award, which is given to college football's top quarterback.
Davis joins Sam Bradford (Oklahoma), Chase Daniel (Missouri), Graham Harrell (Texas Tech), Brian Johnson (Utah), Colt McCoy (Texas), Zac Robinson (Oklahoma State), Mark Sanchez (USC), Matthew Stafford (Georgia) and Tim Tebow (Florida) as the 10 finalists for the award which will be announced following the bowl season.
Davis, a junior quarterback for the Cardinals, has passed for 3,446 yards this season to become the first Ball State quarterback in school history to pass for more than 3,000 yards in a season twice in a career. He threw for a school record 3,667 yards in 2007. A 2008 All-MAC First-Team selection, Davis has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 29 of the last 30 games and ranks eighth in the nation in passing efficiency (164.05) and 16th in the country in total offense (286.38). Davis has thrown for at least 250 yards in a game eight times in 2008 and has completed 67 percent of his passes this season.
Davis quarterbacked the Cardinals to a perfect 12-0 regular season, an 8-0 Mid-American Conference mark, the MAC West Division Championship and the school's first ever berth in the MAC Championship Game. Ball State is 12-1 overall and will face Tulsa in the GMAC Bowl Jan. 6, 2009, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala.
