Men's Golf Inks Three Recruits

Ball State University head men's golf coach Mike Fleck has announced the signing of three student-athletes -- Joe Gasser (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown H.S.), Alex Stinson (Anderson, Ind./Liberty Christian H.S.) and Brodie Williams (Lapel, Ind./Lapel H.S.) -- to national letters of intent to attend Ball State and compete on the men's golf team.
"We are extremely excited to add these three student-athletes to the Ball State golf family," Fleck says. "They each bring a great deal of experience to the team and are each outstanding students academically. We believe they are a great fit for the Ball State golf program, and are looking forward to their arrival on campus next fall."
Gasser, who will compete for Yorktown as a senior this spring, managed a 73.4 average as a junior and was named the Tigers' Most Valuable Player for a second straight season. He is a two-time All-Delaware County selection plus was the medalist at the county tournament as a sophomore and junior. He has helped Yorktown to two sectional titles and two state tournament appearances in his first three seasons. In addition, Gasser placed 32nd at the Indiana State Amateur, finished third at the Westfield Junior PGA Qualifier and finished in the top-10 for points on the Indiana Masters Tour last summer. The son of Scott and Jane Gasser, Joe owns a 3.7 grade-point average on the school's 4.0 scale.
Stinson owns a 72.6 scoring average and qualified for the 2008 Indiana High School Athletic Association State Tournament. The county champion as a sophomore and junior, Stinson was the low medalist at the sectional as a freshman. He was the 2008 Indiana Junior Golf Association Age Group Champion and the 2008 Indiana Section Junior PGA Championship Runner Up. Stinson is a three-time winner of the Indiana Mountain Dew Tour, and was a quarter finalist at the IGA Boys State in 2007. The son of Dr. Mark and Andrea Stinson, Alex owns a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Williams owns a 73.1 average and has helped Lapel H.S. to two White River Athletic Conference Championships and one runner up finish in the county tournament. He won medalist honors at the conference championships as a junior and was an all-county choice. Williams qualified for the regional and state tournament and was a member of the Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup Team last spring. As a sophomore, he qualified for the regional and was the Indiana State Age Group (16) Champion. The son of Robert and Alice Williams, Brodie owns a career low score of 68, and owns a 3.73 GPA. He is a member of the National Honor Society and president of the Lapel Student Body.
The Ball State men's golf team will begin the 2009 spring season March 15 at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate at Pinehurst Resort Course No. 8 in Pinehurst, N.C. Ball State will host the 2009 Mid-American Conference Championships April 30-May 2, at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Speedway, Ind.
