Men's Tennis Ends Day Two At Ball State Invitational

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University men's tennis team finished day two of action at the 30th Annual Ball State Invitational Saturday evening.
In singles action freshman Dave Thomas (Pembroke, Bermuda) earned a quarterfinal victory in the flight B open singles over Matya Hilgert of Eastern Illinois by a score of 6-2, 7-6 (7). Freshman Jon Wegner (Muncie, Ind./Heritage Hall Christian) who advanced to the flight C open singles quarterfinals dropped his match to Mikhael Rasner of Duquesne, 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (8).
Ball State's twosome sophomore Eduardo Pavia (Carolina, Puerto Rico) and teammate freshman Andres Monroy (Mexico City, Mexico) captured an 8-3 victory over Nestrud and Hilgert of Eastern Illinois in the flight A doubles consolation bracket. Pavia and Monroy would advance to the final round after posting an 8-1 win over Sosa and Yunes of IUPUI. The BSU doubles tandem of Thomas and Carpenter managed an 8-5 win over Stump and Fortune of Valparaiso to advance to the finals of the flight C doubles consolation flight. Carpenter and Thomas took the final round of that bracket after a team withdrew with an injury.
The Ball State men's tennis team will conclude its invitational on Sunday at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
