October 19, 2008 | Football
Ball State's football team improved to 7-0 with a 24-7 victory at Western Kentucky Oct. 11, and was idle Oct. 18, but despite the off week, the Cardinals moved up in nearly every national poll.
The Cardinals moved up to 20th in The Associated Press Poll after ranking 24th a week ago. In the USA Today Coaches Poll, Ball State moved from 25th to 22nd. In the initial 2008 Bowl Championship Series Poll which was announced Sunday, the Cardinals are ranked 20th. In addition, Ball State's football team is ranked in a variety of other polls, including the Harris Interactive Poll (20th), the CBS Sports Poll (19th) and the Sagarin Ratings (15th). Ball State, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Brady Hoke, is off to a 7-0 start for the first time since the 1965 season. This year's rankings in the Associated Press, BCS and USA Today polls mark the first ever for the Cardinals. Ball State, which is 3-0 in Mid-American Conference play for the first time since the 1993 campaign, will return to action Saturday with a home game against MAC foe Eastern Michigan. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Scheumann Stadium, and the Family Weekend Game is presented by Marsh. Tickets are available at www.ballstatesports.com or by calling 1.888.BSU.TICKET.
