Gilbert Paces Cross Country at Pre-Nationals Meet

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - - The Ball State cross country team participated in their first 6,000-meter race of the season, utilizing four runners at the 2008 Pre-Nationals Meet hosted by Indiana State.
Senior Vanessa Gilbert (Kettering, Ohio./Fairmont H.S.) continued to pace the Cardinals, finishing a team-best 187th with a time of 22:41.8.Individual Results
Junior Sarah Kehe (Westville, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) finished second among the four participating Cardinals, turning in her best team-performance of the season, by placing 213th with a time of 23:01.6.
Also active for BSU in the 282-runner field were juniors Lisa Arrowsmith (Lavonia, Mich./Stevenson H.S.) and Brittany Ade (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger H.S.), recording 219th (23:09.5) and 232nd-place (23:22.1) finishes, respectively.
The Pre-Nationals meet features a blue and white slate for both men and women. BSU participated in the Women's White race but did not produce a team score with just four runners in the lineup.
The white division finished in a two-way tie for first place by Princeton and Florida State (89 points), with FSU also boasting the top runner in the field in Sarah Kuijken (19:48.2). The top five were rounded out by Michigan (168), Illinois and Georgetown (186).
The Ball State cross country team will return to action on Nov. 1 when they travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships.

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State cross country team returns to action Saturday, when it travels to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete in the 2008 Pre-Nationals Meet hosted by Indiana State.
The Cardinals are set to compete in the Women's 6,000-meter White Race which begins at 11:35 a.m and features 41 programs from across the nation, including two Mid-American Conference rivals in Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan.
The entire slate of competition includes Akron, Arizona State, Baylor, California, Cincinnati, Colorado State, Colorado, Columbia, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, Florida State, Georgetown, Harvard, Illinois, Liberty, Loyola (Ill), Michigan, Morehead State, Northern Arizona, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Mississippi, Princeton, Purdue, Southern Utah, Stony Brook, Syracuse, Tulsa, UC-Davis, UC-Riverside, UC-Irvine, UCLA, Utah, Vanderbilt, Virginia, William and Mary, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan, Wichita State.
The Cardinals finished 26th in last year's Women's White Race. Senior Vanessa Gilbert (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont H.S.), who has paced BSU in its three meets this season, is BSU's top active returnee from last year's event. Gilbert placed 138th in the event last season clocking in a time of 22:12.
Also scoring in last year's Pre-Nationals meet were juniors Kelsey Nielsen (Bremen, Ind./Bremen H.S.), Sarah Kehe (Westville, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) and Brittany Ade (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger H.S.), contributing 153rd (22:23), 166th (22:42) and 178th-place (22:51) finishes, respectively.
Junior Lisa Arrowsmith also participated in last year's Pre-Nationals meet, placing 184th with a time of 22:57. Gilbert and Arrowsmith have been BSU's top performers this season, finishing first and second, respectively, for the Cardinals in each of their three meets.
