MUNCIE, Ind. ? Ball State junior point guard Kiley Jarrett (Bloomington, Ind./North) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. Jarrett led the Cardinals to back-to-back conference victories, including a 21-point victory over three-time defending MAC Tournament champion Bowling Green.
“We are so proud of Kiley and this is a very deserving honor for her,” acting head coach Lisa McDonald said. “Her competitiveness and will to win is a big reason for our team's elevated play during the conference season. She has displayed a lot of confidence in both her play and her leadership skills the entire season.”
Jarrett, a team tri-captain, paced the Cardinals' attack as she averaged 11 points per game and 9.5 assists per contest on the week against Central Michigan and Bowling Green. She shot 47.1 percent from the field in the two games and 42.9 percent from three-point land in leading the Cardinals to a 5-1 record in MAC action.
She came just short of a double-double against Central Michigan as she dished out a career-high 12 assists against the Chippewas while adding eight points. Her 12 assists are the most for a Cardinal this season and the most since former Cardinal Kelsey Corbin dished out 12 against Kentucky last season in the WNIT.
She followed that performance up with an inspired effort against MAC-East Division leading Bowling Green on Saturday. She scored a team-high 12 points, dished out a game-high seven assists and grabbed six rebounds while playing a game-high 38 minutes. She connected on five-of-11 shooting from the field in the victory, including three-of-five from three-point land.
On the season, she is averaging 8.3 points per game and has dished out 72 assists on the year. Her play has elevated in MAC action so far this season as she is averaging 11.5 points per game and 5.7 assists per contest. She is shooting 51.1 percent (23-of-45) from the field, 48 percent (12-of-25) from three-point land and 83.3 percent (11-of-14) from the free throw line against conference foes.
She becomes the third Cardinal this season to earn MAC Player of the Week accolades as she joins freshman forward Emily Maggert (Paris, Ill./Paris) and senior forward Julie DeMuth (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) with the distinction
Jarrett and the Cardinals will return to action Wednesday night as they travel to Athens, Ohio to take on the Ohio Bobcats at 7 p.m.
