Cardinals Finish Fourth In MAC Championships

OXFORD, Ohio -- The Mid-American Conference Championships were held in the George L. Rider Track Complex at Miami University. The conference meet featured 57 regional qualifiers and five MAC Champions returning to defend their titles.
Ball State finished fourth with 80 points. Akron won the meet to record their second straight title by a 19-point margin, becoming the first back-to-back women's outdoor champions since Ball State in 2000 and 2001. Western Michigan took second place with 135 points and Central Michigan rounded out the top three with 83 points.
Leading the way for Ball State was junior Amber Williams. Williams was named the Most Valuable Performer at the meet for her performance in the 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, and in the 4x100 relay.
Williams set two MAC Championship records. She placed first in the 100-meter dash clocking in at 11.54. She also took first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.32.
Williams placed second in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 23.83. The relay team of Christina Whitt, Williams, Voni Ferguson and Katie Johnson took second place in the 4x100 with a time of 45.71.
Senior Rose Lehe recorded a first place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Lehe finished in 10:46.87, her fastest time of the season.
Ball State had two freshmen contribute in the 1500-meter run. Ali Bishel placed sixth with a time of 4:34.65. Teammate Sarah Kehe finished eighth with a time of 4:41.98.
Off the track, Terri Abraham took second place in the long jump. Abraham tied her season-best jump with a distance of 19-11.50. Abraham also earned a fourth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 39-06.50.
Lanae Stovall set a new career-high point total in the heptathlon with 4643 total points, she finished fourth.
