Men's Tennis Faces Western Michigan In MAC Title Match

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Ball State University men's tennis team advanced to the Mid-American Conference Tournament title match on Friday evening after posting a 4-0 defeat over Toledo.
The Cardinals will face league rival Western Michigan for a rematch of last year's title match. Western Michigan is the No. 1 seed and the MAC regular season champions while Ball State enters the match as the No. 2 seed with its lone loss being against the Broncos earlier in the year.
Ball State opened its match over Toledo with a complete sweep in doubles play. Joe Epkey and Jose Perdomo tallied an 8-5 victory over Travis Curran and Brian Rager at No. 1. The twosome of Bret Berryman and Joe Vallee sealed the the doubles point after defeating Chris Clark and Jared Miller by a score of 8-4 at No. 3.
In singles action Joe Epkey rallied off a 6-3, 6-0 win over Mohammed Al Nabhani at No. 1. Berryman captured a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Josh Moran at No. 4 while teammate Vallee recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win over Keith Moran at No. 5. The remainder of the matches were abandoned.
Ball State last won the tournament at Western Michigan in 2005. The Broncos will try to win back-to-back tournament titles on Saturday, a feat that only Ball State has accomplished after winning in 2002 and 2003. The match will played be at IPFW in Fort Wayne, Ind., at 1 p.m.
