Cardinals Compete In Dave Rankin Invitational; No Team Scoring

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Ball State track and field team competed in the Dave Rankin Invitational. Although the meet was a non-scoring, the Cardinals had many top finishers.
Amber Williams and Terri Abraham each had regional qualifying marks in their event to lead the Cardinals.
Williams took first place in the 100-meter hurdles finishing in 13.49. Williams' performance broke the Ball State school record of 13.54 set by Simone Kirtz in 1995. Williams has recorded the sixth best time in the region in the 100-meter hurdles.
Abraham set a regional qualifying mark in the long jump with a distance of 19-11. Abraham finished second in the event and is now 11th in the region.
Abraham recorded another second place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 38-5.
“I was very pleased with everyone's performance,” says BSU head coach Randy Heisler. “Everyone put forth a great effort from top to bottom.”
The Ball State relay team of Christina Whitt, Williams, Voni Ferguson and Katie Johnson took first place in the 4x100 meter relay. The team finished in 45.94 just missing the regional qualifying time of 45.70.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Jenna Schmitmeyer, Whitt, Johnson and Ferguson finished first in a time of 3:47.75.
Ferguson, Whitt and Williams dominated the 200-meter dash event. Ferguson finished first in 24.59, Whitt placed second in 24.73 and Williams finished right beside her in third place in 24.74.
Ferguson and Whitt were also the top finishers in the 400-meter dash. Ferguson finished in first with a time of 55.47, while Whitt took second place in a time of 55.51.
In the 5000-meter run Ali Bishel finished first in 18:00.06. Vanessa Gilbert took second place with a time of 18:14.14.
In the high jump sophomore Jessica Genovese took first place with a height of 5-2.50.
The Cardinals will return to action April 28 to compete in the Stan Lyons Invitational held in Indianapolis, Ind.
