Paul and Whitaker Set To Compete At 2007 NCAA Zone Diving Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. - Junior Stephanie Paul (Mishawka, Ind./Mishawaka) and Senior Zach Whitaker (Coatesville, Ind./North Putnam) of the Ball State swimming and diving teams are set to compete at the 2007 NCAA Zone Diving Championships (Mar. 2-4) held by the University of Michigan.
Paul earned first place in the three-meter dive with a score of 286.70 at the Doug Coers Invitational (11/17-18) which qualified her for the NCAA Zone Championships. Whitaker recorded a 316.35 in the one-meter against IUPUI (Jan. 31) to advance to the NCAA's.
Both divers have been successful throughout the season with Paul earning Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week honors (2/7) for winning both of her diving events in the Cardinals mid-week victory over IUPUI (Jan. 31). Paul dove her way into first place with a score of 289.65 on the one-meter dive. She then took top honors on the three-meter after her 328.95 performance.
Whitaker has earned over five first place finishes with wins over Buffalo, Miami, , Eastern Michigan and Ohio while sweeping both the one-meter and three-meter dives at the Doug Coers Invitational (11/17-18). Most recently Whitaker was named Academic All-MAC for not only his performance in the pool but also in the classroom.
"It is quite an honor to take these two hardworking divers to the NCAA Zone Diving Championships," said Co-Head Coach Laura Seibold-Caudill. "They have prepared all season for this and we couldn't be happier to have these two represent Ball State."
Events begin on Friday, March 2 from 2:45 pm to 8 pm at Canham Natatorium.
