Soccer Places Four On Academic All-MAC Team

“I couldn't be happier for Sarah, Angie, Rachael and Emily to receive this academic award,” head coach Michelle Salmon said. “For them to be honored speaks volumes for our program. Ball State Soccer has set standards of excellence not just on the athletic field but also in the classroom. These four players epitomize the true meaning of being a student-athlete.”
Leibel, a team tri-captain, boasts a 3.818 G.P.A. in political science and makes her first appearance on the Academic All-MAC team. She finished the season tied for fourth on the team in scoring with 10 points as she scored four goals and handed out two assists before missing the final two-plus games due to injury. She tallied three game-winning goals on the season, including the winner against
Heyer, a Second Team All-MAC selection, owns a 3.530 G.P.A. in physical education. She helped spearhead the top defensive unit in the MAC this season as the Cardinals allowed a MAC-low 13 goals against.
Murphy, a Second Team All-MAC selection, owns a 3.388 G.P.A. in nursing for the Cardinals. She was a stalwart in goal this season for BSU as she posted a 12-4-2 record and recorded a single season program record 10 shutouts. She owned the conference's best goals against average of 0.53 overall and a 0.43 goals against average mark against MAC opponents. She recorded a program-best seven straight shutouts as she thwarted the opponents for 664:28 straight minutes during her streak.
Rein, also a Second Team All-MAC selection, boasts a 3.77 G.P.A. in pre-business, and this is her second straight appearance on the Academic All-MAC team. She led the Cardinals in scoring with 17 points as she scored a team-high six goals and was tied for the team lead with five assists. She is third all-time in career scoring in
This is the third straight season that the Cardinals have placed at least three players on the Academic All-MAC team. The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
