“We added four solid student-athletes to the program with this class,”
Mazzapica led her club team (Tampa Wildcats) to a 17th place finish at Nationals. Over that summer she was 15-4 with an ERA of 0.73. Mazzapica struck out 143 batters and only walked 27 in 125 innings of work. Mazzapica has been named All-Conference, and All-County in each of her first three years at East Lake H.S.
“Kim is a control pitcher that can add a new dimension to the program,” Nicholson says. “She depends on movement and placement more than just throwing the ball by people. She is a good athlete that can hit and play in the outfield as well.”
Katie Rynex
Rynex broke her high school's single-season strike out record with 164, and was the first pitcher in school history to record a perfect game. Rynex hit .451 and had an ERA of 0.72 last summer with her club team (Virginia Baseliners). Rynex was a First Team All-District, All-District Tournament, and All-Region selection in
“Katie is a power pitcher that will add depth to our rotation,” Nicholson says. “She is a hard working kid that will have the opportunity to be a pitcher that we depend on to pitch in big games. Katie is a solid hitter that can provide some power in the middle of the order.”
Amanda Montalto
Montalto hit .408 during her junior season at Palo Verde H.S. with 36 RBI and 16 extra base hits. Montalto played club softball for the Las Vegas Rage and was Second Team All-Northwest in
“Amanda will provide power at the plate as a lefty,” Nicholson says. “She is a versatile player that is more polished behind the plate as a catcher, but she can also play first base. Amanda will continue to progress and should get into the lineup quickly.”
Lisa Cappa
Cappa hit .315 for the Indiana Twisters with 10 doubles and 16 RBI.
“Lisa is a combo lefty that can slap and run or hit away,” Nicholson says. “She is a very solid defensive player that will get time at second base, but has the ability to play shortstop. Lisa will provide depth to the infield.”
