MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State Women's Tennis team began action on Saturday with two wins by Emma Retter and Georgina Thomson.
Retter battled with Bowling Green's Andrea Volle and won the match by scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Retter would eventual fall to Yuka Kobayashi of Western Michigan in the second round by scores of 6-4 and 6-1. Retter will take on Libby Harrison of Bowling Green in a match tomorrow.
Georgina Thomson continued the success with a win of Bowling Green's Katia Babina. Thomson battled back after losing the first game by a score of 5-7 to win the next to matches 6-4 and 6-3. Katherine Rist of Ball State lost her opening match to Kobayashi by scores of 6-3 and 7-5. Rist faced off against Andrea Volle of Bowling Green in the second round but was defeated by scores of 6-2 and 6-2.
The fate awaited Rist's fellow teammates Rachel Surowiec, Jennifer Pollack, and Hayley Hall. Surowiec was defeated by Harrison of Bowling Green by scores of 6-2 and 6-1 while Pollack was defeated by Yumi Matsuto of Western Michigan by scores of 6-0 and 6-4. Hayley Hall was defeated by Amanda Moccia of Western by scores of 7-6 and 6-1.
In doubles action, Emma Retter and Rachel Suroweic will square off against fellow teammates Jennifer Pollack and Hayley Hall in a doubles match set for Sunday Oct. 21.
