Bowling Green Hands Women's Volleyball First MAC Loss

Bowling Green, Ohio - - The Ball State (3-10, 1-1 Mid-American Conference) women's volleyball team could not stop a hot Bowling Green (12-2, 2-0 MAC) team, as the Falcons captured their eighth-straight win with a 3-0 (30-22, 30-18, 30-19) victory over the Cardinals Saturday afternoon at Anderson Arena.
In the Ball State loss, senior libero Amanda McCormick (Muncie, Ind./Burris H.S.) tallied a match-best 22 digs for her seventh-consecutive league match with 20-plus digs. She also tallied four assists in the contest.

After opening the match with a block assists from Kennedy and Cochran, the Cardinals surrendered the next two points and would not lead the rest of the game. After a Kennedy solo block tied the set at 2-2, an 8-3 Falcons run put the hosts up for good at 10-5.
The Cardinals would manage to draw within three points on two occasions - - at 10-7 and 11-8 - - only to have BGSU build an 11-point edge at 29-18. The Cardinals would score the next four points, on a service error and three-straight Cochran kills, before a Stephanie Swiger kill ended the game at 30-22.
After playing to a 5-5 tie in the second game, the teams would trade three-point and two-point runs to keep the score tied at 11-11. Ball State would score the next two points, on kills from Angie Parrell (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights H.S.) and Ana Gabriela Pedrosa (Belo Horizonte,
The Cardinals would draw within two points twice - - at 16-14 and 17-15 - - only to see a 13-3 Bowling Green run end the game at 30-18.
Ball State would score three of the first four points in the third game, only to have a 6-1 BGSU run put the hosts ahead 7-4. BSU would eventually tie the game at 11-11 before giving up a 5-2 run to fall behind 17-13.
Three straight Ball State kills, capped by Pedrosa, would get the Cardinals within one point at 17-16. However Bowing Green would end the game at 30-19 on another 13-3 run.
Parrell finished the contest with a team-high 26 assists, while scoring six kills and four digs. Pedrosa posted three kills, three digs and three assists.

Also factoring in the match were: senior Stephanie Bacan (Remsen, Iowa/St. Mary's H.S.) with nine digs and an ace; freshman Julie Breivogel (Boonville, Ind./Boonville H.S.) with two digs and a block; freshman Cassie Conner (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township H.S.) with three digs;
As a team, the Cardinals were limited to their second-lowest hitting percentage of the season at .081 (39-27-148), while Bowling Green hit .328 (52-11-125) in the contest. BGSU also held the advantage in digs (68 to 54), blocks (9 to 4) and aces (4 to 2).
Swiger would pace all players with 18 kills in the match, while Kendra Halm added 10. Four Falcons added double-figure digs paced by Madeline Means' 19.
