Men's Tennis Completes First Day At Tom Fallon Invite

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Ball State University men's tennis team wrapped up day one at the Tom Fallon Invitational held at the University of Notre Dame's Courtney Tennis Center on Friday evening. BSU faced Notre Dame, Purdue and Mid-American Conference rival Western Michigan.
In singles action the Cardinals dropped all of their morning matches to the Fighting Irish. Ball State rebounded with its afternoon matches over Big Ten foe Purdue. BSU's Joe Epkey (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) upset Purdue's Paul Rose (6-7, 6-2, 1-0 ) (10-7) while teammate Aaron Phillips (Effingham, Ill./Saint Anthony) defeated Boilermaker Eric Hodgman (1-6, 7-5, 1-0) (10-7). Jarrod Epkey (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) also came up with another victory over Purdue for the Cardinals after recording a (3-6, 6-2, 1-0) (10-7) win over Kurt Zaske.
After dropping two doubles matches against Western Michigan the Cardinals duo of Joe Vallee (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. Grosse Pointe South) and Bret Berryman (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) pulled off the (8-4) decision over the Broncos twosome Tim Bradshaw and R.K. Bacalla.
Ball State continues its action at the Tom Fallon Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 23).
