Two Transfers To Join Ball State Baseball Program
August 18, 2006 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. - Two former Indiana high school baseball players will return to their home state to play for Ball State in 2007.
Ryan Chenoweth (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.) will join the Cardinal program after a year at Coastal Carolina, while Brenden Stines (Granger, Ind./Penn H.S.) comes to Ball State as a transfer from the College of Charleston.
Chenoweth, a left-handed outfielder, did not see action as a freshman at Coastal Carolina, but he was an All-State First Team selection two years ago as a senior at Homestead. A first team All-Northeast Hoosier Conference selection, Chenoweth was named Homestead's defensive MVP as a junior and offensive MVP as a senior.
"We are happy to have Ryan join the team here at Ball State," Cardinals' coach Greg Beals said. "He will bring much needed speed to the program. Ryan is a left-handed hitting outfielder with very good defensive skills."
Stines appeared in 14 games as a freshman for the College of Charleston in 2006, compiling a 2-0 record and a 4.15 ERA. He struck out nine batters and allowed six earned runs in 13 innings of work.
In high school, he played for former Ball State baseball letterwinner Greg Dikos at Penn, where he recorded 19 wins and three losses over his final two seasons. He was named first team all-conference as a senior in 2005 after notching a 1.18 ERA, striking out 110 batters in 77 innings.
"We recruited Brenden out of high school, so we're excited about him returning home to Indiana to play here at Ball State," Beals said. "Brenden is a good athlete with a very fast arm. We look forward to Brenden making an immediate impact on our pitching staff."
Chenoweth and Stines join a Ball State team that won the first MAC Tournament Championship in program history in May. The 2006 Cardinals finished 38-22 and played in the NCAA Regional.
