Brad Miller Earns All-Mideast Region Honors
June 13, 2006 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State senior first baseman Brad Miller (Muncie, Ind./Central H.S.) has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association & Rawlings All-Mideast Region First Team, as announced Tuesday by the ABCA.
Miller led the Mid-American Conference and currently ranks 13th in Division I with 21 home runs in 60 games. His 76 RBI in 60 games also led the MAC and rank 14th nationally. In addition, Miller led the conference in both total bases (166) and slugging percentage (.678). On the defensive side, he recorded a .991 fielding percentage at first base.
Following the regular season, Miller was named to the All-MAC First Team. He earned MAC West Player of the Week honors twice during the final month of the regular season, and he also garnered Academic All-MAC recognition.
Miller's season vaulted him into the top spot in several of Ball State's career categories. He is the school's all-time leader in home runs with 50, and his 228 RBI rank fist all-time at Ball State and in the MAC. Miller has also played in more games (229) and started more games (227) than any other player in Ball State history.
After leading Ball State to its first MAC Tournament Championship and its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1969, Miller was drafted last week by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.
Of the 26 spots on the all-region first and second teams, the MAC led all leagues with 10 selections. Miller is the 26th Cardinal to earn all-region honors and the 15th to be named to the first team. Ball State has had at least one player named to the first team in seven of the last eight years. Last season, Cardinal relief pitcher Erik Morrison earned a spot on the team.
The 13 All-Mideast Region First Team honorees will be eligible to earn ABCA & Rawlings All-America status. The All-American team will be selected at the College World Series, which begins this weekend in Omaha, Neb.
