THIS WEEK IN BSU BASEBALL: With a 16-9 Mid-American Conference record, the Ball State baseball team earned the No. 3 seed in the 2006 MAC Tournament . . . The Cardinals open play in the four-day double-elimination tournament Wednesday with a 10 a.m. contest vs. No. 4 Western Michigan . . . The winner will move on to face the winner of No. 2 Central Michigan vs. No. 5 Miami at 4 p.m Thursday, while the loser will battle the winner of No. 1 Kent State vs. No. 6 Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. Thursday.

THE RECORD: Ball State enters the 2006 MAC Tournament with a 33-20 (16-9 MAC) record . . . The Cardinals have won 12 out of their last 14 games . . . Last week, Ball State defeated Big 10 opponent Indiana 5-3 on the road before traveling to Central Michigan to close out the regular season . . . BSU IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT: The 2006 MAC Tournament marks the 12th appearance - - and 10th straight - - for the Ball State baseball program . . . BSU's first trip to the tournament came in 1992 . . . In 2002, Brad Snyder became the first BSU player to earn MVP status after leading the Cardinals to the championship game . . . Snyder was the second player in tournament history to earn MVP honors from a team other than the champion . . . Doug Boone (1999-2002) is the only Ball State player to be named to the all-tournament team two times - - 2000 and 2002 . . . Eric Earnhart and Brad Miller return to the event after earning all-tourney team honors in 2005.
