April 27, 2006 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Jessica Thompson (Carmel, Ind./Carmel H.S.), a junior on the Ball State women's tennis squad, has earned First Team All-Mid-American Conference honors as announced today by the league office. Thompson joins five other MAC women's tennis players in Buffalo's Andreea Novaceanu and Maglena Nenova, Western Michigan's Malena Remynse and Carrie Jeanmarie plus Miami's Katrina Lomidze.
Thompson, who earns the honor for the first time in her career, has been Ball State's No. 1 singles player in every match during 2005-06 and has played in the No. 1 doubles position in every match she has competed in. She posted a 12-8 spring singles record and a 11-9 spring doubles mark, while managing a 6-2 singles record and a 5-3 doubles mark versus MAC opponents.
She is currently riding a four-match winning streak at the No. 1 singles position after posting straight-set victories over Akron and Buffalo in last weekend's regular-season finale.
Thompson and the rest of the BSU women's tennis team are set to compete at the 2006 MAC Tournament this weekend in Oxford, Ohio. The Cardinals -- the No. 6 seed -- take on No. 3 seed Miami Friday at 10 a.m.
