Patrick Wilkes-Krier Leads Men's Golf At Muirfield Village

The Cardinals were the top Mid-American Conference team at the event, placing ahead of Akron, Toledo and Miami.
Senior Patrick Wilkes-Krier, who fired a three-under par round of 69 Saturday afternoon, was again the Cardinals' low man Sunday with a round of 74 to finish in eighth place overall at the event. He posted a three-round total of 221 (78-69-74).
Northwestern rallied on the final day to win the tournament with a team score of 878. Indiana, the 36-hole leader, finished second at 882.
Wilkes-Krier and C.D. Hockersmith's round of 79 were the only two Cardinals to record sub-80 rounds on Sunday. BSU posted a team score of 316 and a 919 total to finish ninth overall.
Wayne Denger tied for 37th (75-77-80), while Brandon Boomsma (78-72-83) tied for 40th. Hockersmith (79-77-79) finished 47th and Andy Skillman (78-76-88) tied for 65th.
The 15-team tournament, which featured nine Big Ten teams, was played at the famed Muirfield Village Golf Club built by Jack Nicklaus and home to the PGA's Memorial Tournament.
Ball State returns to action next weekend at Michigan State, before a return tip to Firestone Coutry Club the following week. The Cardinals host the 2006 Mid-American Conference Championships May 4-6 at Brickyard Crossing in Indianapolis.
