McCoy Breaks Record at Searay Relays

On day one, senior Jennifer McCoy and freshman Lanae Stovall began competition in heptathlon. McCoy garnered a second-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 39-08, a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (14.08), a tenth-place finish in the 200 dash (25.79) and tied for 12-place honors in the high jump with a score of 5 1/2.
Stovall notched a sixth-place finish in the 200 (25.40), sixth-place finish in the 100 hurdles (14.22), 14th-place finish in the shot put (31-05 1/4) and 15th-place honors in the high jump (4-11 1/2). Stovall's time of 14.22 in the hurdles is a personal-best.
Day two featured the completion of the heptathlon. McCoy recorded a second-place finish with an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 19-07 1/2 in the long jump. She added a second-place finish in the javelin throw (121-01).
Stovall finished 13th in the long jump with a mark of 16-09 1/4 and 16th in the javelin throw (67-01). The two competitors rounded out the day in the 800. McCoy placed 10th with a time of 2:27.54. Stovall finished with a time of 2:42.89 placing 15th.
Overall, McCoy earned third-place honors in the heptathlon with a score of 5,291. The score is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and a school record for the senior. McCoy knocks off the record she set in 2004 of 5,202. Her score currently ranks ninth nationally.
In her first-ever heptathlon, Stovall placed 14th-place with a score of 4,357.
