Women's Tennis Suffers Setback at DePaul

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Ball State's women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to DePaul University Friday evening at the Lakeshore Athletic Club in Chicago, Ill. The host Blue Demons swept all three doubles matches and all six singles contests. The loss moves the Cardinals to 5-4 overall this season.
Jessica Thompson and Haly Calderwood couldn't stop DePaul's Beatrix Csordas and Gergana Ganeva. The Blue Demons tandem won 8-0 at the No. 1 doubles position. BSU's Stephanie Farrar and Katie Owens were defeated by Dunja Antunovic and Bojana Murisic 8-4 at the No. 2 spot, while Jennifer Pollack and Rachel Lemar suffered an 8-3 loss to Anja Mihaldinec and Petra Rehusova in the No. 3 slot.
In singles play, Thompson fell to Csordas 6-2, 6-2, while Farrar suffered a 7-6, 6-0 setback to Ganeva. At the No. 3 and No. 4 position, DePaul's Antunovic and Murisic pushed past Pollack and Calderwood 6-2, 6-1 and 6-3, 7-6, respectively. BSU's Katie Owens took her opponent -- Brenda Leung -- to three sets, yet eventually fell 7-6, 3-6, 1-0. Rounding out singles competition was Ball State's Emma Retter and DePaul's Mihaldinec. The Blue Demon's player pulled through for a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
The Ball State squad continues its road swing when it takes on Cincinnati Wednesday at 6 p.m.
