Football's Jason Sieman Earns Academic Award

Jason Sieman (Katy, Texas/Taylor H.S.), a senior member of the Ball State University football team, has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Five Football Team, which is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Sieman, an accounting major with a 3.49 grade-point average on Ball State's 4.0 scale, has been named to the academic all-district team for the first time in his career. He will now appear on the national ballot and the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team will be announced Nov. 30.
Sieman has appeared in all 10 games for the Cardinals this season and started four contests at linebacker. He is fifth on the team in tackles with 44 plus has five tackles for loss. Sieman had a career high 12 tackles against Boston College in 2004, and has posted a season high 10 tackles vs. Northern Illinois this season. He has managed at least three tackles in eight games this season, including seven at Michigan last week.
Sieman was one of five Ball State student-athletes nominated for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team, but the only one selected to the 2006 squad. Thirteen times a former Ball State football player has earned Academic All-America First Team recognition in the past, while six times a BSU player has been recognized on the Academic All-America Second Team.
