Swimming & Diving Opens Season at Notre Dame

The Cardinal women finished in second place with a team score of 182 while the BSU men placed third with a team total of 156.
In event one the women placed fourth in the 200 yard free relay, as Michelle Huang, Kelly Johnson, Sarah Kehe and Erika Paul swam to a 1:41.10 final. The men captured third in the same event with a time of 1:28.12. The relay team was made up of Ben Battjes, Eric Gellinger, Eric Mattingly and Jacob Morris.
The BSU foursome of Addison Del Rio, Katie Jasmon, Erin Johnson and Brittany Saylor garnered second place in the 400 yard medley relay after compiling a time of 4:00.59. The men tallied a time of 3:41.47 in the 400 yard medley relay which was good for fourth.
Ball State's women grabbed a third place finish in the 800 yard freestyle relay after clocking in a time of 7:58.81. The quartet was made up of Mary Ehresman, Huang, Kelly Johnson and Kehe. Ironically the men's team of Mark Augustyn, Jason Blosser, Kyle Hembree and Ben Karwoski took third in the same event after posting a time of 7:18.95.
Mary Brinkoetter, Del Rio, Emily Hurst along with teammate Erika Paul captured Ball State's second top two finish of the night in the 400 yard individual medley relay after recording a time of 4:09.28.
The women also earned a second place stance in the 400 yard butterfly with a time of 4:01.10. The relay was made up of Ehresman, Hurst, E. Johnson, and Paul.
Brinkoetter, Huang, Katie Jasmon and Sayler compiled a team best 4:00.16 for a second place finish in the 400 yard back relay. Hembree, Adam Konopka, Mattingly and Brett Pettit took third in the relay with a mark of 3:44.10.
The fourth second place finish for the women on the night was in the 400 yard breast relay with the efforts of Del Rio, Lauren Harger, Hurst and Megan Ploetz. The team recorded a time of 4:39.61.
The men earned second in the 1000 yard free relay after posting a time of 9:46.70. The duo was Hembree, and Karwoski.
Ryan Franklin, Mattingly, Jacob Morris and Pettit clocked in a 1:40.70 to take third in the 200 yard medley relay.
Boyle Paul placed second in the women's diving relay with a 458.55 final. Linn Whitaker also took second for the men with a 461.60 finish. Boyle took first in the synchronized diving with a top score of 204.35 while Linn placed second.
Ball State swimming & diving will continue its competition when they head to Eastern Illinois on Friday (Oct. 13).
