Baccarani Honored as MAC Player of the Week for First Time in 2006
January 26, 2006 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State senior Matt Baccarani (Toronto, Ontario/Silverthorn C.I.) was selected as the Mid-American Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week last Thursday for the first time this season. The honor marks the seventh time in his career and the first in 2006 in which a BSU tennis player has been selected for the award.
Baccarani helped the No. 68 Ball State men's tennis squad post two points against No. 51 Northwestern Jan. 15. He recorded the Cardinals' lone singles win of the outing by taking down NU's Christian Tempke in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 1 position. In doubles play, he teamed with fellow senior Patrick Thompson -- the duo is ranked No. 4 in the nation -- to notch a 9-7 victory over Adam Schaechterle and Matt Christian in the No. 1 slot.
Baccarani and the squad continue their 2006 campaign when they travel to Champaign, Ill., to take on No. 4 Illinois Saturday at 6 p.m.
