Women's Golf Inks Two Recruits
May 02, 2005 | Women's Golf
Kallie Harrison (Decatur, Ill./St. Teresa H.S.) and Sarah Windlan (Anderson, Ind./Highland H.S.) have each signed National Letters of Intent to attend Ball State University and compete for the women's golf program, according to first-year head coach Katherine Mowat.
Harrison joins the Ball State program after spending the last two seasons at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where she guided SIUE to its third consecutive NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship. The Cougars will compete in the event May 2-3 behind Harrison's team-leading 78.3 scoring average.
As a freshman at SIUE in 2003-2004, Harrison was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year after helping her team to its first-ever GLVC Championship. She set the SIUE school record for single-season scoring average with her 79.9 and finished in the top five in 12 tournaments as a freshman.
"Kallie brings two years of experience in college golf to Ball State," Mowat says. "She will be an instant contributor to our team. I believe her game will really develop with this team and program. She has been very successful to this point and her potential is what makes us most excited. Kallie is a very good player."
Windlan becomes Mowat's first freshman recruited as head coach at Ball State. A four-year National Honor Society student-athlete who owns a 3.998 grade-point average, Windlan will join the BSU program this fall after four straight MVP seasons at Anderson Highland. A four-year all-conference selection and a two-year state finalist, Windlan holds both the 18-hole and nine-hole school records with scores of 72 and 34, respectively.
An active summer golfer, Windlan competes on the Indy Junior Tour, Madison County Junior Tour and the Indiana Mountain Dew Tour. In 2004, she was qualified for the Optimist International golf tournament played at PGA National in West Palm Beach, Fla.
"Sarah comes from a golfing family," Mowat says. "She has been very involved in golf since an early age. I am excited that Sarah is my first true recruit in terms of signing her as a freshman. She is very excited about continuing her golf career close to home. Sarah also has tremendous potential as a golfer and is very goal-driven."
Ball State completed is 2005 season with a fourth-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships -- the best in the school's brief history in women's golf. The Cardinals also had the individual medalist -- junior Katie Sundberg -- at the MAC meet, while juniors Carmen Bodine and Julie Harder each were individual medalists during the spring season.
