DeMuth Honored as MAC Player of the Week
December 05, 2005 | Women's Basketball
Ball State basketball player Julie DeMuth (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville H.S.) has been honored with her selection as the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week. This marks the first time in her career she has garnered the honor and the first time this season a BSU player has received the MAC's weekly award.
DeMuth notched her second and third-straight double-doubles of the season -- giving her six in her career -- as BSU split its two games last week. The Cardinals set a school standard by posting the first 5-0 start in the 32-year history of the program with their 65-61 win over Illinois State Wednesday, but then suffered their first loss -- 61-49 -- to Valparaiso Sunday.
DeMuth led all scorers with 19 points plus a season-high 14 boards against the Redbirds. She added one assist and a steal in 36 minutes of action. Against Valparaiso, she had 14 points, 10 rebounds and one assist over a 29-minute span. For the week, she averaged 16.5 points and 12 rebounds.
The 5-10 guard/forward currently tops Ball State in scoring and rebounding with 14.3 and 10.0 averages, respectively, plus is first with 11 steals. She ranks No. 1 in the MAC in rebounds, No. 6 in scoring, No. 10 in steals, No. 14 in field goal percentage (.426) and No. 15 in free throw percentage (.710). She has scored in double figures in all six of the Cardinals' games this season, leading them in that category twice. She has topped BSU five-straight times in rebounding.
Ball State, which is off to the best start in school history at 5-1, begins a seven-game road series Saturday when it travels to Butler for a 2 p.m. clash with the Bulldogs.
