Swimming & Diving in First After Opening Day of IUPUI House of Champions

Indianapolis, Ind. - - Both the Ball State men's and women's swimming and diving squads hold the advantage after the first day of competition at the IUPUI House of Champions. The women's team tallied 315 total points and maintains an 83-point advantage over Northern Colorado in the seven-team field.
The men's team posted 229 points and holds a 39-point edge over Eastern Illinois among the six men's programs in the event.
The Ball State women's team opened the two-day meet with a first-place effort in the 200 freestyle relay. Addison Del Rio, Lauren Harger, Michelle Huang and Brittany Sayler combined to record a time of 1:38.93 to pace the field by .26 seconds. The women's squad would go on to win all five other events on the day.
Mary Brinkoetter would record a time of 5:09.30 in the 500 free to earn the top spot, while Meghan Patterson would clock in at 5:10.06 to take second. Dani Fisher (5:14.87) and Brittany Mishler (5:17.97) would take fourth and fifth, respectively in the event.
Del Rio would swim to a first-place time of 2:06.92 in the 200 IM, marking the third-best individual effort in school history. Sayler would take third in the event with a time of 2:08.92.

In the final women's event, Sayler, Del Rio, Erika Paul and VanOsdol would combine to win the 400 medley relay with a clocking of 3:56.73.
On the men's side, Ritchie Caudill, Dustin Fulkerson, Kurtis Leer and Tyler McQuiston posted a time of 1:27.68 in the 200 free relay for a second place effort.
Jim Lullo would take home third in the 500 free, with a time of 4:53.33. Adam Konopka would give the men's side their first event with, completing the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.43. Caudill would take second in the 200 IM (1:56.84), while Ryan Frankin would finish fourth (2:01.21).
McQuiston would post his second runner-up finish on the day in the 50 free, clocking in at 21.45, while Zach Whitaker took home first-place in 3-meter diving with 294.65 points.
The men's team would end the day with a first-place effort in the 400 medley relay, with Konopka, Franklin, Caudill and Leer combining for a time of 3:34.18.
