October 14, 2005 | Field Hockey
ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ball State field hockey team dropped its second straight Mid-American Conference decision with a 3-0 loss to conference-leading Ohio Friday afternoon, falling to 2-10 overall on the year with a 1-4 MAC record.
Ohio's Nikki Gnozzio initiated the scoring just over two minutes into the game (2:09), with her second strike of the season on a crossing pass from Estienne Coetzee. With her ninth goal of the year, Torrie Albini added to the Bobcats' lead with an unassisted mark at 3:16.
The Bobcats held that 2-0 lead for the majority of the game and even extended it to the eventual final 3-0 score when Coetzee notched her eighth goal of the year with a deflection on Amanda Arnold's corner shot at 57:25.
The Cardinals, who had averaged over 26 shots on offense over the last two games, were held to just four shots -- three on-goal -- against a tough Bobcat defense.
Sophomore Katie Kloeckener (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx) had a team-high two shots, followed by junior Lindsay Quay (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and sophomore Amanda Pavone (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) with one shot apiece. In her previous two games, Quay had amassed 11 and 12 shots, respectively.
Senior goalkeeper Tracy Bannister (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) took the loss, dropping her record to 2-8 on the year. Bannister managed five saves in defeat.
The Bobcats, now 7-7 overall and 5-1 in the MAC, defeated the Cardinals 5-1 in their previous meeting, Sept. 23 in Muncie and have now extended their winning streak to 14 games versus BSU.
Ball State travels to Kent State (3-12, 3-2 MAC) for a 1 p.m. meeting Saturday. After starting the season 0-11, the Golden Flashes have won three of their last four games, including a 2-0 shutout of Miami Friday.
