Men's Tennis Falls Short To Montana, 4-3

LAS VEGAS, Nevada - The Ball State men's tennis team fell to Montana at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon by a score of 4-3. The Cardinals dropped to 10-4 on the season with the loss.
In doubles play, the Cardinals took the early advantage after a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 spot. Montana responded with a win of their own after duo No. 77 Yannick Schmidl and Alex Canellopoulos took a 7-5 decision on the top court. But the Cardinals were able to close out on a high note as Chris Adams and Tom Carney clinched the point after a tight match with Ludvig Hallgren and Max Korkh, 7-6 (7-4).
In singles play, Ball State continued what it had started, winning at the No. 6 spot after Bryce Bonin took down Hallgren 6-4, 6-0 to push the Cardinals lead to 2-0. Montana then earned its first point at the No. 3 position, 6-4, 6-1. Ball State put itself in even a better position to win when Andersen made it a 3-1 match after defeating Korkh, 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 4 slot but Montana fought back and took the next three matches from the Cardinals for the win. Despite losing, both Marko and Nemanja Guzina took their respective opponents to three sets.
The Ball State men's tennis team begins Mid-American Conference action on March 17 versus Binghamton on the campus of Northern Illinois. The Cardinals will then play the Huskies on March 18.
