Romano Earns Second Straight MIVA Defensive Player of the Week Honor

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association announced this week's player of the week honors Tuesday morning, naming Ball State's Jake Romano as the Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row.
Romano is being honored this week for his performances against Quincy and Lindenwood. The sophomore totaled 30 digs for 3.33 digs per set in nine sets of play. He also added four block assists on the weekend.
In the 3-1 win over Quincy, Romano had 11 digs and two blocks. He also led the team in assists with 41 along with adding four kills.
The next night Romano notched a match-high 19 digs along with two blocks in the 3-2 victory over the Lions. The setter also tallied 48 assists, three kills and one service ace.
Last week, Romano earned the honor for his dominating performances against then No. 8 Lewis and then No. 6 Loyola-Chicago. He led the team in digs that weekend with 27 and 3.86 digs per set. The Racine, Wisconsin native also had four block assists and one solo block in those contests.
Romano and the rest of the Ball State squad are now preparing for their Spring Break trip to California. The Cardinals will take on UC-San Diego, Concordia-Irvine, University of California Irvine, and UC-Santa Barbara.
