LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Ball State women's basketball team (3-5) suffered a 71-51 loss at Wyoming (7-2) Saturday afternoon in Arena Auditorium.
Wyoming came out of the gates strong in the second half, building a 49-34 lead with 11:13 left in the contest. The Cardinals were held to a 26.9 percent shooting mark from the field, while Wyoming shot 41.7 percent.
Ball State was led by sophomore forward Nathalie Fontaine who had 20 points, while teammate junior guard Shelbie Justice added 10. Senior forward Katie Murphy contributed eight points on the day. Freshman center Renne Bennett led the Cardinals defensively with six rebounds.
After Ball State opened the game with a quick basket from Bennett, Wyoming quickly answered back with a 15-7 run to take an 18-10 at the 8:34 mark.
The Cardinals regained control in the last 5:34 of the half, putting together a 13-4 run to make the score 29-27 with 1:29 remaining. During that run, Fontaine knocked down a three pointer while also going 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Justice also added a three pointer and Murphy would hit a layup. Despite the Cardinals efforts, the Cowgirls would head into intermission up 33-27 over Ball State.
