MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Ohio State Buckeyes Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Lexi Kavanaugh notched her seventh goal of the seaon.

Both teams battled to a 0-0 tie after the first half. The Buckeyes had nine shots while the Cardinals had six in the first 35 minutes of action.

Ohio State got on the board first in the 55th minute when Maria Swartz fed Emma Royce. Kavanaugh would answer in the 60th minute when she was fed a ball from sophomore Bethany Han for a clear shot to the goal. Both teams would mount an offensive furry with Ohio State coming out successful with a shot in the 65th minute when Mona Frommhold turned in a rebound.

Sophomore Shelby Henley made 12 saves on the day while red-shirt sophomore Bianca Velez was credited with a defensive save.

Six Cardinals tallied shots on the day, led by sophomore Allie White who notched six shots, four of which were on goal.

Ball State will host MAC foe Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 26 for a 1 p.m. game. The match will mark the last home game for the Cardinals in 2013.
