MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -  The Ball State field hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision to open MAC play against Central Michigan. The Cardinals are now 5-5 on the season.

Juniors Tarel Teach and Tori Widrick each managed to get shots on goal for the Cardinals. Red-shirt sophomore Bianca Velez and freshman Lexi Kavanaugh were each credited with a shot.

The score was 0-0 heading into halftime. Heading into the break Ball State held the advantage in penalty corners, 3-2, and saves, 3-1.

The Chippewas were able to strike early in the second half, when Kaysie Gregory fed Cayleigh Immelman at the 35:40 mark. 

Sophomore Shelby Henley made five saves on the day, while CMU's Sadie Reynolds made three saves.

Ball State is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 6 at No. 19 Michigan for a 1 p.m. game.
