AKRON, Ohio - - Sophomore thrower Marie Lumpkin turned in a career-best effort in the hammer throw to lead the Ball State track & field team Thursday at the first day of the 2013 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships at Akron’s Lee R. Jackson Track & Field Complex.
With a career-best toss of 50.29m (165-0), Lumpkin placed 14th overall in the hammer throw. The effort was 0.49m (1-5) better than her previous career-best of 49.86m (163-7) set at last season’s Jack Shaw Classic (May 4, 2012).
Four events into the 2013 MAC Outdoor Championship, host Akron leads the meet with 30 points, followed by Kent State (29), Buffalo (21.50), Miami (19), Toledo (17), Eastern Michigan (14.50), Central Michigan (12), Bowling Green (10), Ohio (3), Ball State (0), Buffalo (0) and Northern Illinois (0).
Ball State’s student-athletes will compete in five events tomorrow, starting at 2:20 p.m. when MaryKate Mellen competes in the 1500m run
