NOTRE DAME, Ind. - - Senior distance runner MaryKate Mellen became the second Ball State runner to qualify for the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships Saturday afternoon at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Norte Dame.
Mellen turned in a career-fast time of 4:54.50 to place fifth among the 70 runners entered in the mile run at the two-day meet. Mellen's time is currently the fifth-fastest in the league this season and almost three-and-a-half seconds faster than the MAC Indoor Championships Automatic Qualifying mark of 4:57.92.
Earlier in the season, sophomore Katelyn DeVries qualified to the league indoor championship meet in the 5000m run with a career-fast clocking of 17:30.74 at the Gladstine Invitational.
Ball State's distance runners were the lone members of the squad to compete at the Meyo Invitational, with the rest of the squad competing at the Tom Hathaway Challenge hosted by the University of Indianapolis Saturday.
