WILSON, N.C. – The Ball State Cardinals earned a 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-13) sweep of the Barton College Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium. With the win the Cardinals improve to 5-0 on the year. Bobby Renaud, Marcin Niemczewski and Jon Clawson all saw action for the first time this season in the match.
Senior outside attacker Jamion Hartley led the way for the Cardinals with a season-high 10 kills and a .471 hitting percentage (10-2-17). Junior outside attacker Urim Demirovski notched a career-high nine kills and two service aces on the match. Demirovski hit at .538 (9-2-13) and added a solo block and an assisted block.
Sophomore middle attacker Julian Welsh-White also had a career match, blasting seven kills for a .778 (7-0-9). Sophomore outside attacker David Ryan Vander Meer had a career-high four kills to with his career-high three service aces and 11 digs. Senior setter Dan Wichmann tallied a season-high 34 assists to go with two kills, five digs and a solo block.
Freshman libero Bobby Renaud got his first career start and had two assists and eight digs. Freshman outside hitter Marcin Niemczewski and sophomore middle attacker Jon Clawson added six kills each.
The Cardinals outhit the Bulldogs .579 (45-7-66) to .132 (22-13-68) and held the advantage in digs (28-12), service aces (6-2), assists (43-21) and blocks (6-1).
Ball State was the first Division I program Barton College has ever faced. The Bulldogs now drop to 0-4 on the season.
The Cardinals will return to Worthen Arena next weekend to open up a five-match home stand. Ball State will host Quincy on Friday, Feb. 1 and Lindenwood on Saturday, Feb. 2.
