MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State men's golf team has added Michigan State transfer McCormick Clouser to its roster for the upcoming Spring 2013 season.
A product of Bluffton, Ind., and Norwell High School, Clouser will be a sophomore for the Cardinals after spending the past year and a half at Michigan State. Last month, he tied for 22nd in a deep national field at the Dixie Amateur.
"We welcome McCormick to the Ball State golf family," Ball State coach Mike Fleck said. "He is an established Division I student-athlete who has experienced success at the highest level as a collegiate and amateur player. We look for McCormick to have an immediate impact on the program, and we are excited he chose Ball State University."
Clouser competed in all six events this past fall for the Spartans, carding a 75.3 stroke average over 18 rounds. He posted three top-20 finishes and had his best result in October at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic, where he tied for ninth.
As a freshman at Michigan State in 2011-12, Clouser competed in 11 of the team's 12 events and logged a 74.76 stroke average. He managed four top-20 results that year, including a tie for 18th (second-best among Spartan golfers) at the Big Ten Championship.
Clouser, who finished runner-up at the 2011 Indiana Amateur before his freshman year of college, had a decorated high school career at Norwell. He was a four-time All-Northeast Hoosier Conference selection and won the individual conference title in both 2010 and 2011. He was also named the Northeast Indiana Player of the Year his final two seasons.
A first-team all-state selection in 2011, Clouser held a 71.9 stroke average, won four tournaments and placed third at the IHSAA state championship in his final high school season. He holds the Norwell 9-hole and 18-hole scoring records.
Clouser joins a Ball State men's golf team will enter the spring season ranked No. 27 nationally by Golfweek and No. 34 by Golfstat. The Cardinals are preparing to host the MAC Match Play next month at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
