What's On Tap: Ball State women's basketball welcomes its second Horizon League opponent of the season to Worthen Arena when it hosts Detroit Mercy at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Cardinals have started off the season with an overall mark of 2-6 while the Titans come to Ball State with a 4-3 overall record. Detroit Mercy has won its last two outings over Mid-American Conference opponents after posting a 97-57 victory at home against Western Michigan a 65-53 road win at Ohio University. Thursday's meeting will be the fifth time the two schools have met with the Titans leading the all-time series over the Cardinals 3-1. Detroit Mercy has won its last three meetings against Ball State including an 87-68 victory at Worthen Arena in 2011-12.
About Detroit Mercy: The Titans are on a two game winning streak while having an overall record of 4-3. Three out of the four victories for Detroit Mercy have been against Mid-American Conference opponents; Eastern Michigan (61-54), Western Michigan (97-57), and Ohio University (65-53). The Titans are led by Shareta Brown who is averaging a double-double after seven games with 23.6 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per contest.
The Coaches: Ball State head coach Brady Sallee is in his first season at Ball State. Sallee's career coaching record is 138-115 and he is 2-6 with the Cardinals. He was named the 11th head women's basketball coach in Ball State history May 10. Detroit Mercy's head coach Autumn Rademacher is in her fifth season with the Titans. Rademacher was the 2010 Horizon League Coach of the Year. Her overall record at Detroit is 66-68, while her Horizon League record is 41-31. Rademacher is familiar with the MAC as she was an assistant coach at Western Michigan for seven years under former Broncos head coach Ron Stewart.
