AUSTIN PEAY, Tenn. - The Ball State women's basketball team (2-6) lost a 79-66 decision on the road Saturday night at Austin Peay (2-5) in the Dunn Center.
For the game sophomore guard Brittany Carter led the Cardinals in scoring with 14 points. Ball State had two more players score in double figures freshman guard Nathalie Fontaine chipped in 13 and teammate junior forward Katie Murphy ended the game with 12.
Sophomore guard Shelbie Justice opened the second half with a three pointer which sparked a 7-0 run for the Cardinals to cut the Lady Govs lead to 34-28 at the 18:09 mark. That was as close as the Cardinals would get the remainder of the game as the Lady Govs put together a 27-12 run that earned them the 63-46 lead over Ball State with 7:48 remaining in the contest.
The Cardinals found themselves down by seven in the opening minutes of the game after Austin Peay went up 7-0 straight out of the shoot. Carter knocked down two free throws to get Ball State on the board at the 16:55 mark.
After that the Cardinals went on a 5-0 run to make it a 9-8 ball game with a layup from Fontaine with 10:46 remaining. But that was as close as Ball State would get in the first period as the Lady Govs eventually built a 32-21 halftime advantage over the Cardinals.
