MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State men's golf team signed three Indiana high school standouts to National Letters of Intent during the NCAA's recent early signing period.

Quentyn Carpenter (Bourbon, Ind./Triton), Keegan McKinney (Avon, Ind./Avon) and Jon Schram (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community) will each compete as high school seniors in the spring and then join the Cardinals for the 2013-14 academic year.

"We think this is a great class," Ball State coach Mike Fleck said. "We were able to attract three of the top golfers in the state of Indiana. With what we are losing to graduation in the spring, this class has an opportunity to come in and contribute right away, which is exciting."

Carpenter has competed in the Indiana state finals twice. He finished in the top 25 both times, including a tie for 14th as a freshman in 2010. A three-time All-Northern State Conference selection, Carpenter finished his junior season with a 74.9 stroke average. He owns the single-round scoring record at Triton Junior-Senior High School with a 5-under par 65.

Earlier this fall, Carpenter won the Golfweek Junior Tour event at Delaware Country Club in Muncie. A member of the National Honor Society, he plays high school golf for his father Jack Carpenter at Triton and is the cousin of former Ball State golfer and current graduate assistant coach T.J. Carpenter.

McKinney is a three-time all-county and three-time All-Hoosier Crossroads Conference selection in just three seasons for coach Tom Maples at Avon High School. He was champion of the Martinsville Sectional in 2010 and the Center Grove Regional in 2011, advancing to the state finals both years. He tied for 16th at the 2011 state finals.

Last summer, McKinney qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur and competed in the Junior PGA Championship. A two-time Avon team MVP who has numerous wins on junior tours, McKinney is ranked among the top 100 in the class of 2013 by Golfweek.

Schram has helped Warsaw Community High School and coach Ben Barkey to appearances in the state finals in each of his first three seasons. He finished eighth individually in last year's state tournament and earned all-state honors. A two-time All-Northern Lakes Conference selection, he logged a 74.8 scoring average as a junior.

Schram was named a Future Collegiate World Tour All-American and has been ranked as high as No. 3 in the state and No. 89 in the nation among the class of 2013 in the American Junior Golf Association rankings. He is a former high school teammate of current Ball State freshman Tyler Ostrom, and he will be the fourth Warsaw golfer to compete for the Cardinals.
