What's On Tap: Ball State opens the 2012-13 season Wednesday night with an exhibition game as the Cardinals welcome Oakland City (Ind.) to Worthen Arena for a 7 p.m. tipoff.

Brady Sallee Quote: "Wednesday's exhibition game will be a great chance to get this group under the lights and see if we can apply the things we've been working on in practice during live situations. I know the girls are excited to start getting into game mode and actually start banging on someone else for a change. For me, the importance of Wednesday night's game is not about the scoreboard but instead, our ability to execute the system."

About Oakland City: Oakland City is coached by Jessica Mehringer. The Lady Oaks ended the season 13-15 overall in 2011-12.  Ball State defeated Oakland City last season 68-39, Nov. 21.  The Lady Oaks were led by senior forward Kayla Skaggs after her 14.0 point performance that game, while Ball State junior forward Katie Murphy chipped in eight points in the Cardinals victory and sophomore guard Brittany Carter ended the night with seven.

Scouting the Cardinals: The Cardinals are coming off a foreign tour to Canada, where they competed in Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia (Aug. 9-15). Ball State opened the foreign tour with an 82-52 victory over Trinity Western University. In that game, sophomore guard Shelbie Justice led the team in scoring with 16 points, and classmate Brittany Carter added 15 points. The Cardinals ended the trip with a 2-2 overall record.  Ball State returns six letterwinners from last season while welcoming three freshmen and two walk-ons.

Head Coach Brady Sallee: Sallee begins his first year at the helm of the Cardinals after being named the 11th head women's basketball coach in Ball State history, May 10.  He comes to Ball State after spending the past eight seasons at Eastern Illinois where he posted a 136-109 career coaching record.  Over the last five seasons he guided the Panthers to 106 victories, which is the most in the school's history by an EIU women's basketball team over a five-year span.  He guided Eastern Illinois to back-to-back 20 win seasons in 2008-09 and 2009-10. His team won 24 games in 2008-09, which marked the first time a women's basketball team from EIU had accomplished that feat since 1987-88. He also coached the Panthers to three Women's National Invitational Tournament appearances from 2010-12.

A Look Ahead: The Ball State women's basketball team will open the 2012-13 regular season at home for the third straight year as it hosts back-to-back in-state rival Evansville, November 9 and Butler, Nov. 13 with both games starting at 7 p.m. in Worthen Arena.  Ball State faces Marshall for its first road game (Nov. 17) before hosting its third in-state school, Nov. 19 when it plays IPFW. The Cardinals then finish the month of November off on the road Nov. 23-25 in Florida at Bethune Cookman (Nov. 23) and Stetson (Nov. 25) followed by a road trip to Murray State (Nov. 29).  The month of December brings three home games to Worthen Arena -- Detroit Mercy (Dec. 6), Northern Kentucky (Dec. 8) and Wyoming (Dec. 18). Ball State will also compete on the road three times -- Austin Peay (Dec. 1), Illinois State (Dec. 16) while closing non-conference play at Valparaiso (Dec. 29).  The Cardinals open MAC action at home against Miami University, Jan. 10 and will end MAC play on the road at Toledo, March 6.
