MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's and women's tennis teams are set to compete at its ITA Ohio Valley Regional event this weekend.
The Cardinals will be at separate venues as the men travel to Memphis, Tenn., for its regional (Oct. 19-23) while the Ball State women will compete in West Lafayette, Ind. (Oct. 18-21).
Ball State men's tennis was one of nine teams competing in the Ohio Valley region that got the maximum number of players in the draw, six singles and three doubles teams.
"The regional event is always the highlight of the fall schedule," said Ball State head men's tennis coach Bill Richards. "We are pleased to have received six singles and three doubles spots in the draw, which is the maximum allowed in our region. The Ohio Valley region has many talented individuals from outstanding top national level programs and we look forward to competing against a strong field."
The Ball State women's program will have three of its players compete in the qualifying singles round, junior Kristel Sanders, freshmen Courtney Earnest and Bethany Moore, along with one qualifying doubles team. Sophomore Courtney Wild and freshman Ayaka Terashi both will compete in the main draw for singles while also having two teams in the main draw doubles flight.
"I am thrilled to take the entire team to Purdue this weekend, it should be a great experience and opportunity for them," said Ball State head women's tennis coach Christine Bader. "We have Wild and Terashi in the singles main draw, Sanders, Earnest and Moore in the singles qualifying, and three doubles teams playing."
